Jn. 3:8-17; 1Cor. 15:45-53; Matt. 7:16-20; Gal. 5:22

Last week we learned THAT we must be spiritually re-born into the Heavenly Kingdom. This week we learn HOW that is possible. It is only possible for the flesh to become spiritual because the spiritual man (Jesus) became flesh. His dying on the Cross pays the debt of sin for every person who believes in Him, as John 3 explains. So then we might ask, Does that mean that everyone who says they believe in Jesus is spiritually re-born? And to answer that, we consider Jesus' parable of the tree and its fruit (see Matthew 7). If we claim to have been spiritually transformed from a fleshly "thornbush" into a spiritual "fruit tree," then we should expect to see the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22) growing in our lives. So it is ultimately FRUIT (not to be mistaken for works, which are entirely different), not faith in itself, which grants us confidence that we have been spiritually re-born.
